Hauske Family Gift Supports and Connects the USM Community
For Kathy and Tom Hauske Jr., the close community feel at University School was a major reason they enrolled their four children starting in Preprimary: TJ ’08, Grace ’08, Charlie ’12, and Harriette ’14. And it was with the community in mind that the Hauske family decided to support the Our Common Bond campaign with a capital gift to be recognized with the naming of the Hauske Family Lobby in the Upper School. The new space connects the Jack Olson ’67 Commons with the new servery, Palermo Hall. It also houses the new office for the Upper School dean of students and a new elevator, and will be one of the first spaces the students enjoy at the start of their school day.
“The new Hauske Family Lobby is a space that will draw the community together,” said Head of Upper School Stuart Cushman. “Not only will students gather there, but so will teachers and the broader community.” Functionally, the space is integral to maintaining the flow between the Olson Commons and Palermo Hall, but it also reinforces USM’s strong commitment to community. Banners that showcase the school’s Common Trust tenets—respect, trust, honesty, fairness, and kindness—will be hung prominently in the lobby.
